My Wellness Tips
Over the years, I have gotten super into wellness. As a college student, there is only so much I can do but here are my most important rituals…
1) Get enough sleep — I try to get 7-9 hours to maximize productivity during the day, ensure effective workouts, enhance my skin and hair, and allow my body to recover from stress, both mental and physical.
2) Drink water — all forms of it! I drink so much tea, and it is a great way to hydrate! Peppermint tea is my favorite because it is very anti-inflammatory and especially good with a dollop of raw or Manuka honey. I also like to do ice lemon water with a little salt to replenish sodium.
3) Exercise — I am one of those people whose anxiety gets pent up if I don’t do some form of cardio. I like to run, stair master, incline walk, or sometimes cycle. If I don’t have time for a full workout, I will sauna! I also mix in strength training such as pilates or power yoga 3-4x a week.
4)
5) Magnesium — I have been taking magnesium for years now. It helps a lot with muscle recovery, digestion, sleep, and overall quiets anxiety / stress. I love the Wooden Spoon Magic Magnesium (which also has spirulina and electrolytes) and Pure Encapsulation magnesium glycinate, which is the form of magnesium responsible for calming the body. I take them before bed, but you can take it anytime during the day!
6) Healthy coffee / matcha — I like to give my daily beverages a healthy boost. My morning coffee recipe is cold brew, ethically-produced collagen, peppermint spirits, and a clean, gum/filler-free dairy-free creamer such as Califia’s organic line or Nut Pods. I blend this all in my Nutribullet for a really creamy texture! If I am making matcha, I will just replace the cold brew with matcha in warm water.
7) Silk pillow cases — I love my silk pillow case from Myx because it keeps my hair and skin healthy! I also love Slip and Blissy
8) Prioritizing a creative outlet — if you know me, you know I am always on Pinterest or looking at fashion magazines. I think having a creative outlet to just relax your mind and detach from stress-inducing academic or professional work is critical to productivity. Maybe draw or paint or write! Do whatever makes you feel fulfilled and happy. This is also great for taking mini, 15-minute study breaks!
9) A self-care shower and skincare routine — it sounds basic, I know, but my shower and skincare routines are so important to my mental health! I feel like I am taking care of myself and nurturing my body. In the shower, I usually exfoliate both my body and scalp with gloves or a body scrub. I shave with Billie’s razor and shaving cream and then moisturize with a cream and oil.
